Why is this important

40% Texas don’t carrier any type of insurance or are under-insured, meaning they fail to meet the state required minimum for liability coverage. As of 2015, Texas requires the following insurance amounts – carry less insurance and you could incur some hefty fines and penalties. (Auto Insurance). This leads to higher Insurance rates due to claims going unpaid from under / not insured individuals. Higher number to individuals with suspended licenses and the addition to road hazard due to individuals driving with damaged car because they don't carry insurance. This also goes for homeowner and renters when events happen and individuals are not insured not only does that person feel the effects but it  affects the owners and the community from rebuilding and moving forward.

  • $25,000 Property Damage
  • $30,000 Personal Injury (per person)
  • $60,000 Personal Injury (per accident)
  • Up to 57% of homeowners and renters lack coverage.
  • Up to 85.4% of Individuals lack medical coverage.

This program will allow individuals the opportunity to make a change that will greatly impact their life. Helping to get more individuals equipped with drivers licenses by providing drivers ed classes and defensive driving classes. This will also open them up to new career opportunities in fields that require a drivers license. Help individuals get and maintain insurance on a consistent base to help increases the number of insured, this can lead to the reduction of consumer rates that have now skyrocketed.

A 2019 study by the Texas Alliance for Health Care (TAHC) warned that Texas’ high uninsured rate could cause long-term damage to the state’s economy. It can lead to worse health among the uninsured, limiting their earning power. It affects employers by increasing absenteeism and sidelining skilled workers — and has a negative impact on communities that become saddled with rising costs for uncompensated health care.

The TAHC study predicted that the number of uninsured Texans could rise to 10.1 million by 2040. Without a change in policy, the study projects that costs for hospitals and physicians who provide unsubsidized and uncompensated care will rise from $6.5 billion in 2016 to $12.4 billion in 2040, while the impact of lost earnings and poor health will rise from $57 billion in 2016 to $178.5 billion in 2040.

According to the American Insurance Association, property-casualty insurers operating in the U.S. have more than $1.4 trillion invested in the economy. Insurance companies typically invest premiums, or dollars, that are not used to pay claims and other operating expenses. Through stock, corporate and government bonds, and real estate mortgages, these investments often finance building construction and provide other crucial support to economic development projects around the nation.
